Makati CBD E-Jeepney Route

Working in Makati CBD is sometimes just good to hear. But when you list down all the hassles that you have to go through before getting to your workplace, it’s not that good at all – especially if you are just commuting by public utility vehicles. Well, even employees here who have their own car still grumble about the heavy traffic on main avenues every rush hour. If you don’t hold your horses about this issue everyday, you might end up going to work with a really bad mood.

However, there are employees using the MRT station who prefer walking to their respective offices. It’s good that you will be able to avoid the traffic but the drawback there is, if your workplace is far, sweat and dust will make you look haggard even before you working day starts. If you are fed up of your daily dilemma, there’s a good solution for you – E-Jeepney.

This is an electric public utility jeepney that’s powered by charged batteries via electrical sockets. The charging procedure takes the whole night to sustain the whole day’s operation. This is particularly better than other fuel-powered PUVs because for one thing, it’s lighter. It also causes no pollution and has a quiet engine. If you are planning to have our first ride in this e-jeep, you might as well learn about the routes.

Makati Local – Guess Where I’m Heading (Case #1)

Hey there! If you’re looking for a blog that gives information about Makati City, then you might be a bit off the track upon reading this. I was thinking about what to write about Makati when something popped into my mind. What if I write something that will boggle the readers? What if I write my own journey just around Makati and let you guess where I’m heading. You know, like the famous Detective Conan cartoon, I’m going to give you clues of where I’ve been and you guess where my destination is! Now that’s something that will make you read the whole blog and ponder on the clues, right? It’s a challenge for you, as well as for me because I’m now thinking of a way on how to give you clues. Mind you, these are not easy clues and you have to be analytical! Every word I use will be significant in knowing what places or landmarks I’m passing through. Also, don’t disregard the situations I’m going to write because those are also clues. This blog is for people who love to think and analyze. So here goes my first journey:

It was ten minutes past 6 in the evening when I decided to take my day off. Ten minutes overtime, I told myself. By the way, my name is…Oh wait, I think I need a code name..Hmm..Ok my name is SUMMIT and I’ve been working in Makati for a pretty much long time now and I can truly say that this place is one of the best places in Metro Manila in terms of my professional life. The sidewalks are clean, there are appropriate loading and unloading stations and my favorite, plenty of restaurants on every side of the street. So I was thinking if I should go straight home or have a little detour. Then I finally decided – which I won’t tell you of course!

So I packed my things, bid goodbye to my bosses and started my way out of the office. Upon going out the building, I noticed a line of people on the other side of the road. Oh no.. I told myself. It’s rush hour, I don’t think I’ll be able to squeeze myself in that line. So I walked north-bound (on my left side) and headed to the nearest underpass. It’s really frustrating to be walking on the wrong side of the road during rush hour. It’s like swimming against the current. Then I reached the underpass and went down.

As I was taking the plight of stairs (downward), I was thinking whether I should walk ahead or turn right and walk on the other side of the road. My stomach grumbled and I thought, maybe I should grab a snack first. So I walked straight ahead and took the escalator. I saw a QSR restaurant and a convenient store on my right side. I went to the latter to buy snacks. Then I continued my tiring walk-a-thon. Just adjacent to the store, I saw this bank already closed. Maybe I should drop by this bank tomorrow to get my E-ON card, I told myself.

So I walked to the next underpass, went down and turned right to get myself on the other side of the road. As I was walking, I saw another underpass ahead of me and too tired to take the stairs, I turned right, to a certain street. Just a few meters away, there’s a footbridge that links to buildings and malls. So I took the escalator and started heading to the nearest mall. As I was walking, I went past a parking lot. Then I continued walking until I smelled that familiar smell of old fabric and antique things which reminded me that I’m close to my destination. I looked down, on the right side and saw that fountain on the ground level. It’s always beautiful. I told myself. My destination is just a few steps away and I’m thinking if I’m going to choose kiwi over blueberries or maybe add strawberries.

Now, do you know where in Makati I’m heading? As a treat, I made this an easy one!

US duck hunters spark nuclear plant alert

Duck in flight (generic image)

A pair of duck hunters has trigged a security alert at a nuclear weapons assembly plant in Amarillo, Texas.

Officials locked the plant after getting reports of individuals in camouflage gear stalking across the road from the factory.

They turned out to be two plant employees who had decided to spend their day off hunting fowl.

The plant was briefly shut as a “precautionary measure,” a plant official said.

“They were just doing what people do around here,” said Carson County Sheriff Tam Terry.

“They just had a lot more company than they were planning on.”

The pair, who sparked the alert when spotted early in the morning carrying arms and dressed in camouflage gear, were later found in a nearby field setting up goose decoys.

No charges will be filed against the men who both had permission to hunt from the local landowner.

Seven killed in Iraq truck bomb

Iraq map

Seven people have died as a suicide bomber blew up a truck near a police station in western Iraq, security officials say.

At least two police officers were among the dead, while another six people were injured in the blast in Saqlawiya in Anbar province, officials said.

The bombing comes a week after attacks targeting police killed eight people in the town of Hit in the same province.

The area has in the past been a stronghold of Sunni insurgents.

The bomber blew up a water tanker near the gates of the police station, Mohammad Jassim, a police spokesman, told Reuters news agency.

Militants targeted

A young girl was among the injured, AFP news agency reported.

It is the latest in a series of attacks on officials active in the drive to expel militant groups from Anbar province.

Last Thursday, seven people died in four explosions, which appeared to have been caused by bombs planted at the houses of prominent policemen.

One of the main targets seems to have been Maj Walid Suleiman, a senior figure in the drive against insurgent groups in the area.

Pre-election violence

A week before that, twin suicide blasts in the provincial capital Ramadi killed 25 people and severely injured regional governor Qassim Mohammed.

Violence has been rising as Iraq prepares for a March general election.

Until two years ago, the Sunni insurgency was strong in Anbar province.

But local Sunni tribes and their followers then turned against the militants, and began co-operating with the Iraqi government and US forces against them.

After a period of relative calm, the province is against suffering from mounting violence.

Spaniards kidnapped in Mauritania

Map

Three Spanish citizens have been kidnapped in the West African country of Mauritania, according to reports.

They were travelling in a convoy on the road linking the capital Nouakchott to the city of Nouadhibou, media reported.

Two men and woman were taken by armed men, with one report saying a fourth person managed to escape.

They had reportedly been delivering aid to Nouadhibou and were also dropping off donations along the route. Authorities were searching for them.

The kidnapping happened near the town of Chelkhett Legtouta.

Spanish news agency EFE reported that trio worked for a non-government organisation called Barcelona-Accio.

Other reports described them as tourists.

In August a suicide bomber has set off an explosion outside the French embassy in Nouakchott, injuring two guards.

Mauritanian authorities have in the past blamed Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb for attacks.

These included an attack by gunmen on the Israeli embassy in Nouakchott in February last year, and the killing of four French tourists in December 2007.
